Chinese Martial Arts Film:
"Come Drink With Me"
Saturday, February 7, 8 p.m. Rich Auditorium
HIGH Museum of Art

A true Hong Kong classic, Come Drink With Me was made by King Hu, a director who, in Berenice Reynaud's words, "joined poetics to sophisticated action choreography, ushering in the 'new school' swordplay and the martial arts film as a major art form."

It's a typically convuluted period tale involving disguises, gender deceptions, kidnappings, romance, and of course elegant and dazzling acrobatic swordplay.

The film is part of the touring program Heroic Grace: The Chinese Martial Arts Film, selected and organized by the UCLA Film and Television Archive. (1966, 94 minutes.) In Chinese with English subtitles.
